Hospital maintenance causing mayhem? Try rental solutions

05/05/26

When healthcare sites require large scale maintenance, it can cause huge disruption for the staff and patients onsite. Healthcare sites can’t just shut down; sites must continue to be operational as construction work is carried out. Modular solutions can provide temporary clinical space that meets this demand without compromising on quality or compliance – but what makes our modular solutions perfect for supporting hospital maintenance?

Shorter timescales mean less disruption

We understand that repairs can be unexpected, leaving hospital staff with little time to find a solution. Rental modular solutions can be built quickly, even in a matter of weeks as the majority of construction work is built offsite in a factory. This means modules only have to be installed onsite, making timescales much shorter than a traditional, ‘bricks and mortar’ solution. We also keep a fleet of modules in storage, meaning that we are able to quickly customise and deliver to sites as and when needed.

Our team is also used to responding to urgent situations. We recently worked with Redruth and Camborne Hospital when their stroke ward required vital maintenance repair, so we provided a temporary facility with 20 patient beds. Knowing the urgency, our team was able to fast track the initial elements of the project – even getting the MEP plans, which would usually take four weeks, to complete in just four days.

Prioritising safety, compliance and quality

Despite being temporary, our rental solutions are of equal quality as our permanent offering. The focus of our module’s internal environments are the comfort and wellbeing of the staff and patients who will be using it every day. For example, features such as large windows to incorporate natural light, high ceilings to give a spacious feeling and sound dampening to reduce echoes can all be incorporated. Crucially for a healthcare space, the modules can be designed to adhere to HTM regulations, read more about this in our blog here.

One such example is our work at Newport Health and Wellbeing Centre where we provided a temporary healthcare space while the main facility was under construction. We designed the modules with air conditioning, heat recovery ventilation and LST panel heaters to ensure the temperature was comfortable whatever the weather. Safety features such as a wireless nurse call system, CCTV and fire alarms were also installed to ensure the facility was both safe and compliant.

Scaleability, flexibility and customisability

Modular solutions have the benefit of ultimate flexibility, meaning they can readily adapt to a fast-paced and evolving hospital environment. The ease of installation means if demand increases, extra modules can easily be added to give more space, or if demand decreases then modules can be removed, or relocated to an area of higher need without disrupting staff and patients.

The internal environment can also be easily customised, helping to change a room’s purpose to suit. For example, a room can easily be changed from a ward to an office space or vice versa, helping to make sure that space isn’t wasted. It also helps staff to make sure that even though the space is temporary, it is always functional and purposeful.

A greener solution

Rental solutions have the added benefit of being a sustainable option. Our rental fleet are used up until the end of their 40+ years lifespan, being transformed for different purposes and transported across the UK. This means the embodied carbon within the module itself is not released into the atmosphere, and promotes a circular economy.

Our precision manufacturing techniques also mean that there is less materials wasted during the manufacturing process, while our choice of less-carbon intensive materials means there is less embodied carbon, when compared with a structure that utilises concrete, bricks and mortar.
