The latest news and insights from Premier Modular.
The start of FY27 has been a really important period for Premier Modular, one where we moved beyond planning and started putting our sustainability strategy into practice.
As one of the UK’s leading modular construction specialists, we recognise that sustainability is about more than reducing our own impact. It’s about delivering better outcomes for customers, supporting communities and ensuring the buildings we create have a positive legacy.
For too long, ESG has been about words on a page: reports, frameworks, and promises. But real change happens when those plans become part of how we work, every single day. That’s exactly what Q1 was all about, laying solid foundations so our sustainability efforts aren’t just something we talk about, but something we deliver.
A defining milestone this quarter was launching our FY27 ESG Plan. This wasn’t just another document to file away, it was built around the issues that matter most to our business, our people, and our customers. Every action has an owner, every target is measurable, and every part of the business knows how it contributes. Because sustainability isn’t one team’s job, it’s everyone’s responsibility.
We also refreshed our materiality assessment and aligned our work more closely with the UN Sustainable Development Goals. This sounds technical, but it’s really just asking: where can we make the biggest difference? By being clear on that, we avoid spreading ourselves too thin and focus our energy where it counts.
In construction, we can’t manage what we don’t measure. That’s why we’ve been refining our product carbon calculators, tools that help our customers see exactly where carbon sits in their projects, right at the design stage.
Improving these tools means better data, clearer reporting, and smarter choices. It also shines a light on our own carbon hotspots, showing us exactly where we need to reduce emissions next.
As customer expectations around embodied carbon continue to grow, providing robust and transparent carbon data is becoming increasingly important. By improving our carbon calculators and strengthening our environmental product data, we’re helping customers make informed decisions earlier in the design process.
Beyond our own operations, we’re digging deeper into Scope 3 emissions, working more closely with suppliers and using Environmental Product Declarations (EPDs) to build transparency across our entire value chain.
Sustainability isn’t only about carbon and climate, it’s about the communities we serve and the people who work here.
This quarter our teams have been out in force: a charity sponge throw and raffle for Hull 4 Heroes, sponsorship of Withernsea’s Blue Light Weekend, and most recently, 17 colleagues taking on the Yorkshire Three Peaks, raising over £3,300 for Hull 4 Heroes and the British Heart Foundation.
These aren’t just fundraising moments. They’re a reflection of who we are, a business rooted in community, where looking after each other and our neighbours is just as important as reducing our environmental footprint.
None of this works without strong foundations. That’s why we’ve been advancing our Gender Pay Gap Action Plan, creating clear pathways for fairer recruitment, development, and progression across the business.
We’ve also developed a Modern Slavery Improvement Plan, strengthening how we vet suppliers and ensure ethical practice right through our supply chain. In a complex global market, responsible sourcing isn’t optional, it’s how we protect our people, our customers, and our reputation.
Alongside this, we’ve continued developing our understanding of embodied carbon through life cycle assessment (LCA) and Environmental Product Declaration (EPD) initiatives. This work is helping us build a clearer picture of the impacts associated with our products and identify opportunities to reduce emissions in the future.
Q1 was about building the framework. Q2 and beyond will be about delivering results. There’s still plenty of work ahead, but we’re moving forward with clear purpose: better data, stronger communities, and a business that balances environmental care, social value, and responsible governance.
Sustainability is a journey, not a destination, and we’re proud to be taking those steps together.
