Deliver a high quality, functional teaching block as part of the School Rebuilding Programme.
Rosedale College, in Hillingdon, is known for its engaging learning environment for pupils aged 11-19 years old. The school prides itself on fostering community and providing its students with a rich learning experience that is catered to individual needs.
With onsite buildings dating as far back as the 1960s, the school was selected by the Department for Education (DfE) to undergo redevelopment as part of its School Rebuilding Programme, appointing Bouygues UK to manage the demolition and re-build project. With plans for demolition in place, the school needed a high-quality temporary teaching facility to ensure that education could continue without interruption during the construction phase of the school rebuild.
We were tasked by Bouygues UK to deliver a temporary teaching block that would not only be suitable for education needs, but also align with the DfE-provided Schedule of Accommodation.
The team onsite were most helpful, nothing was ever too much. Their response was second to none, it was a pleasure to work with them.
Working within a constrained, live school site
The delivery of the temporary modular building was taking place during school term, so maintaining a schedule that wouldn’t interrupt teaching, or impact pupil safety, was a high priority. Not only was access to the school tightly constrained, with delivery restrictions in place around the school drop-off point and during collection times, but the team also needed to consider how the delivery would affect local residents. Additionally, limitations were put in place by Transport for London and the Metropolitan Police on vehicle movements via the M25.
To manage these constraints, a detailed transport survey and delivery schedule were developed, enabling modules to be delivered, craned and installed to site safely and without disruption. Our team also undertook additional weekend work hours to keep delivery at pace and aligned with Bouygues UK’s’ project timeline.
Designing a modular solution based on the DfE-provided Schedule of Accommodation, whilst also meeting the needs of pupils being taught specialist subjects in the classrooms, required our team to be flexible and forward-thinking with design. We used a combination of standard modular classroom units and bespoke modules to provide the space needed and meet the DfE requirements, whilst accommodating gas supplies, safety systems, ventilation, and equipment needed for the bespoke classrooms.
To provide quality and compliance assurance, the modular facility design was tailored to meet the DfE Output Specification, demonstrating that internal layouts and performance met the high-quality requirements. This proactive approach from our team helped keep multiple stakeholders aligned and ensures the temporary classroom block delivers the functionality needed for pupils to learn.
Rosedale College’s new teaching block comprises two-storeys and is built using 80 modules. The modules used for this project are designed to be easily disassembled and reused, supporting a circular economy model by extending the modules lifecycle.

It was important that students’ learning would not be impacted by the ongoing rebuild project. With this in mind, bespoke classrooms were designed and fitted as part of the modular facility alongside purpose-built administrative spaces for staff. This ensures that students have a high quality facility to work within whilst the older buildings are being demolished.
