The first trains to be manufactured in Goole will be new Tube trains for London’s Piccadilly line. Transport for London is committed to supporting the wider UK through its supply chain, and this is an excellent example of how funding for London’s public transport system is providing investment in business and jobs across the country as part of the levelling up agenda.Siemens Mobility has been focused on working with local suppliers for the construction of the Goole facility, contracting the first £50m spend with Yorkshire businesses. The new train factory is scheduled to open in 2023, creating up to 700 jobs and up to 1,700 in the supply chain. The company plans to create an associated rail supplier village and innovation centre, making Goole a rail centre of excellence for the UK.
