Nightingale Hospital Exeter

CLIENT Royal Devon and Exeter NHS Foundation Trust
Contractor BAM Construct UK
Programme 4 Weeks
Size 1700sqm
BUILDING SOLUTION Permanent
BRIEF

Modular buildings were required to double the size of a repurposed retail unit to accommodate essential healthcare facilities for the Nightingale Hospital Exeter – a new hospital built to respond to the Covid-19 pandemic.

PROJECT CHALLENGES

This was a challenging project which involved unprecedented collaboration at every level throughout.

The temporary buildings were provided to an ambitious programme ready for fitting out by the BAM supply chain.

The Premier teams across the business – design, production, logistics and on site – pulled out all the stops to reduce the modular build programme from four months to just four weeks to help create the new hospital to support the South West.

THE OFFSITE SOLUTION

Working as a partner to BAM and to a significantly reduced build programme, Premier designed, reconfigured and installed five single-storey modular buildings comprising 57 steel-framed modules. The scale of this project would typically have taken around four months from receipt of order to handover.

Completed in just four weeks, the integrated buildings were supplied site-ready to accommodate facilities including pharmacy, staff welfare, catering, utility rooms, patient transfer and stores.

A RAPID RESPONSE TO PROVIDE INCREASED CAPACITY FOR THE NHS

The 116-bed hospital is designed to provide high quality specialist care for seriously ill coronavirus patients in Devon, Cornwall and the wider South West region. It will also provide additional capacity by delivering safe and fast access to diagnostic testing.
