RAF Chicksands is part of the project SLAM (Single Living Accommodation Modernisation) initiative to provide accommodation on RAF bases across the country. The building provides accommodation for Senior Non-Commissioned Officers and incorporates 36 en-suite bedrooms and 4 ancillary rooms in the 3 storey building.
Off-site construction of the 42 modules required for the building took place at Premier Interlink’s modern factory facilties in the East Riding of Yorkshire.
The modules for the bedrooms were constructed with light gauge steel frames, whilst the core areas were of a beam and post construction. Windows were installed and the bathroom units were fully fitted out whilst still at Premier Interlink’s premises. The modules were taped, filled and decorated, with floorings fitted where possible before delivery.
The modular units were delivered to the site for installation ready for the remaining floorings and carpets to be fitted on site and final furnishing of the rooms to be completed.
The main contractors finished off the building with a brick skin to the exterior.
To alleviate health and safety concerns, Premier Interlink have designed and developed an innovative lifting frame and carousel. The lifting frame allows operatives to work more safely at height when installing modular buildings.
Debut Services have recognised the potential of the system and have now forwarded it for consideration to be included in their own procedures worldwide.
Graham Leigh, Associate Project Manager with Debut Services thanked the Premier Interlink team for the delivery of the Chicksands module package, stating the project “was delivered to a high standard with regards to both quality and safety in what was Premier Interlink
