HMP Rochester - Ancillary Buildings
Defence and Custodial
Premier was employed as a specialist partner of Wates Construction to construct a 240 place prison extension from three cell houseblocks. The MOJ had significant pressure to create new prison spaces due to increasing prisoner population and a fast, efficient solution was needed. Premier was also asked to construct a number of much needed ancillary buildings and was selected for this project for its innovative building designs and very rapid build processes.
The ancillary buildings comprised of an Education Block, Visitors Centre, Healthcare facility, Sports Changing facility and Gatehouse.
The Strategic Alliance Director for Wates commented: "the production of a new prison for 300 offenders in 34 weeks has been acknowledged as a major achievement. We recognise the commitment of the Premier team’s management, works, design and erection played in that and how they coped with significant change and some difficult weather, yet still delivered to programme and budget".
In March 2010, Premier Interlink (Waco UK Ltd) in conjunction with Wates Construction was the winner of the 2010 BREEAM Award in the Prisons category for their houseblocks in a young offenders' institute achieving a score of 76.23%.
