“The Education Sector continues to be one of the most buoyant markets for construction with schools and further education projects forecast to deliver over £8bn of contracts during 2015. Many school projects will be delivered through the Priority Schools Building Programme (PSBS). How will these new buildings be delivered on time and on budget?
It is often quoted that major projects, including construction projects, are delivered over budget and over time. Whilst this depends on how things are measured, The Major Projects Authority was established in 2012 to improve the performance of Government backed projects suggesting that the reality is not far removed from the hearsay. The publication Construction 2025 targets four key areas needing improvement:
• A 33% reduction in the initial cost of construction and the whole life cost of built assets
• A 50% faster delivery time for new build and refurbished assets
• A 50% reduction in greenhouse gas emissions in the built environment
• A 50% improvement in the trade gap between exports and imports of construction products
