The last 3 years have seen some dramatic changes in our business and to the solutions that we offer to the various sectors that we serve and actively target. These have inevitably forced an upturn in quality enquiries, which has increasingly put pressure on the estimating department and the need to become more technically involved as the solutions have developed.
Simply put, we had to adapt our estimating process to ensure we could deliver the estimates needed while also ensuring that we could achieve cost certainty and assurance.
To aid this we have worked closely with our Estimating/Bill of Materials provider over the years (the software is called Quantum eBOM) to tailor a solution that is both flexible whilst still being accurate. Of critical importance is the feedback and lessons learnt processes within our business that ensure the data is constantly reviewed and updated where appropriate.
The eBOM database system is used throughout the project lifecycle and through various levels of the business, tying together the data from the initial project enquiry stage through to completion on site.
The last year has also seen changes within the estimating department to suit our BIM implementation plan; this has been developed and rolled out in a controlled manner to allow the changes to occur with minimal disruption. The year ahead will see this develop further and will include significant changes within estimating and our data processes, the team are ready and up for the challenge!
