HR ruminations…....

Over the past twelve months, the increase in won work has steadily increased, creating a positive and exciting environment for our people to work in. So why are we in the HR team walking around with worried looks on our faces??  How are we going to recruit the number of people we need with the right skills and experience??  How are we going to retain those we have with the construction industry as a whole being so much more buoyant and competitors looking for good people too??
Answer: by ensuring we offer market related pay rates and above average benefits!  By ensuring we use non-monetary motivational tools, by being inclusive with our managers, by offering long term careers within our business!
Has this been successful, yes it has! We have increased our manufacturing workforce by over 40% and are managing to supplement those numbers with agency labour on a weekly basis as well. Our turnover of permanent employees remains at very low levels so retention tools appear to be working effectively too. Saying that, still on the lookout for good modular/construction people as we can always use them.
